Why Is This Room Warmer Than The Rest Of My Home?
Posted: April 5, 2018 by Andy
Most homeowners notice from time to time that one or two rooms in their home are much colder or hotter compared to the rest of the house. Why are some areas different than others? Let's take a closer look at the key reasons why some rooms just can't keep up.
Clogged or dirty air filters
Dirt-clogged air filters can prevent air from flowing to certain parts of your home, which can cause some rooms to cool much more quickly than others. We recommend that you change your air filters every 30 to 90 days.
Ductwork is the system or network of airways that deliver heated and cooled air throughout your home. You can think of it as the lungs of your HVAC system. When your ducts become clogged with dirt and debris over time, air cannot pass through efficiently, causing the areas farthest away from your HVAC unit to be warmer or cooler than those closer to it.
Rooms that face the sun
Does the room get more afternoon sun than other rooms? Does it face south? Heat from the sun might be causing the problem, as this additional warmth can easily get trapped in a room, making it hotter than other rooms that don't face the sun. To keep a room from warming up more quickly than the others due to heat from the sun, we recommend hanging heavy, thermal-insulated curtains and closing them during the day.
If you've tried these solutions and a room is still consistently warmer or cooler than the rest of your home, it could mean that you have a problem with your HVAC system. Call us today to schedule a visit from one of our experts and get back to living comfortably!
