New Year's HVAC Resolutions
Posted: December 27, 2021 by Andy

Make 2022 your family's most comfortable year yet with these HVAC resolutions!

As you're making your 2022 list of New Year's resolutions, you might consider how your habits impact the HVAC system in your Northeast Ohio home. Next year, aim to stop wasting energy and efficiently heat and cool your home. Include these HVAC-related New Year's resolutions in your goal-setting process this year.

Schedule seasonal maintenance

Your first resolution should be to keep up with the seasonal maintenance of your HVAC system. Our expert service technicians will inspect the components inside your furnace and air conditioning system during your routine tune-up. If something isn't working properly, we'll work with you on a plan to repair your unit right away. Neglecting your system can lead to major issues that will shorten its working life and cost you a great deal in extra repair expenses.

Also, by identifying potential problems earlier, you'll reduce the risk of a complete system breakdown. It's best to have your AC checked during the spring, and your furnace checked during the fall. If you opt into our Preventative Maintenance Program, you may qualify for a discount on any required repair services. You'll also stay current on the manufacturer-recommended maintenance schedule for your unit. Win-win!

Change your filter regularly

Inside your HVAC system is a filter that serves a vital role. This simple device helps remove contaminants from your home's air so they won't be recirculated back into your living space. When your filter becomes clogged, your system has to work harder to move the heated and cooled air, wasting energy and causing higher bills. A dirty filter will also lower the air quality in your home, which can make your family uncomfortable or even sick.

This year - and every year - resolve to change your filter often. You should replace your filter at least every three months, and monthly if you have pets in the house or family members with health issues.

Improve your indoor air quality

When you think of poor air quality, your mind immediately jumps to the outdoor smog and pollution found in big cities. That's bad, but in fact, the quality of the indoor air you breathe could be much worse. That's because you're continually breathing air that's passed through your HVAC system several times a day or more. You may notice allergy symptoms like congestion, sore throat, headache, and eye irritation. These all indicate the need to improve your indoor air quality.

Frequently changing your HVAC filter is an excellent first step, but you might need to do more. Consider installing an air purifier to remove more contaminants from your home's air, leaving it pure and healthy for your family to breathe. Along with other advanced technology, this device often contains a filter with a high MERV (minimum efficiency reporting value) rating that traps smaller particles and other contaminants your standard filter can't. As a result, you'll breathe and feel better.

Program your thermostat

Finally, the last resolution to make this year is to set your thermostat properly. Most modern HVAC systems have a programmable thermostat that allows you to set a schedule for the times you're at home and when you're away. Smart thermostats take this a step farther, learning your family's living patterns and adjusting as needed!

By programming your thermostat correctly, you can set a comfortable temperature without having to make manual adjustments often, causing the system to cycle on and off more frequently. Allow your thermostat to do its job, and you'll enjoy a comfortable indoor environment while reducing energy waste. In addition, you'll save money every month. Who doesn't love saving money?

Make 2022 the year to set new HVAC goals. Keep these New Year's resolutions, and your home will feel more comfortable, be healthier to live in, and you'll save energy and money, too!
